Editing pictures...

Wow, does this take time!  Between the four cameras on the trip, we took over 1000 pictures.  I've been deleting all the bad ones and burning them on CDs so that each team member can have a copy of all of them.  (I hope to have lots more pictures up within a week or so...)

Now I just have to do a Power Point presentation for May 5th for International Cafe.  This is kind of like an open house for church people and supporters to hear about the trips, taste foods representative of the trip, see pictures and browse our display table.

And, I have my final paper due next Tuesday for my "Life of Christ" class.  On the same night, I begin "The Early Church".

We're back home...

On Saturday, we had a chance to visit a few places in Taichung to get a feel for the culture.  It's one thing to know that people worship ancestors; it's another thing entirely to be there and witness the emptiness and futility of their beliefs.  It brings home to the heart what your head already knows - that there is an urgency in at least telling people the truth about the one true God.

On Sunday, we were able to participate in a service that was a late "Easter" service - this one was specifically designed as an outreach, complete with an Easter egg hunt.  Two of us were able to share (with a translator) about Easter traditions as compared with the true meaning of Easter.  Then Bobby (Law) gave the Easter message.  He explained later that most in attendance were not people they knew - we hope that seeds were planted in their hearts.  He also explained the almost complete absence of men - they are the ones expected to carry on the ancestor worship in their families, especially if they are the oldest son.

On Monday morning, we arrived at the airport near Taipei only to find our flight was cancelled.  However, we all got onto other flights - ours ended up being first class on Japan Airlines!   If only for a short trip, we experienced the pampering and service of Japan Airlines.  After that, it was economy from Tokyo back to Chicago.

We arrived back in Harrisburg just a little late (8 pm Monday EST, 8 am Tuesday Taiwan time) , and only one suitcase was missing, but it was delivered the next day (yesterday) and all is well.  Only a little over 28 hours traveling time... not bad.  The only deep sleep I had was on the little commuter jet from Chicago to Harrisburg.  It's very hard to sleep on a big plane with little room to recline or move.  Everyone else was just as tired and very happy to be home.

Now it's back to regular life.  Last night I had a class and Ken had to work.  Today it's grocery shopping and typing up the debriefing notes before I go back to work tomorrow.

Thank you to all who prayed and supported us.  We were only able to serve through you, and with His strength.

Praise God!

Jeanne and George were feeling better as of yesterday, and Jeanne was able to take pictures of the children and George played the accordian in the Variety Night talent show last night.  Our children just narrowly missed the award for best performance, but the teens (led by Rachel) won, so we are consoling ourselves (Ken and I) with the fact that the team was well represented!

Today is our last day here with the children, and saying good-bye is always bittersweet.  It's amazing how quickly you bond with them and grow to love having them around!

This afternoon, we head for Taichung and a chance to spend some time with Bobby and Michelle and the other residents at the SEND office.  We'll do a bit of sightseeing and debriefing and some more eating!  I am still stuffed from the day before yesterday!

Thursday - 7 p.m.

In addition to Jeanne, George is now not feeling well.  Please pray that not only will they get better, but that no one else on the team will become sick, as well as the children and their parents!

Thursday - Taiwan Time!

Jeanne is not feeling as well as expected...  please continue to pray!

It's too bad that she's missing this gorgeous weather, and that she's feeling so awful.

The children had fun gluing animal prints on a trinket box and playing with the parachute, and they couldn't wait to wear their safari hats to lunch!
