On Saturday, we had a chance to visit a few places in Taichung to get a feel for the culture. It's one thing to know that people worship ancestors; it's another thing entirely to be there and witness the emptiness and futility of their beliefs. It brings home to the heart what your head already knows - that there is an urgency in at least telling people the truth about the one true God. On Sunday, we were able to participate in a service that was a late "Easter" service - this one was specifically designed as an outreach, complete with an Easter egg hunt. Two of us were able to share (with a translator) about Easter traditions as compared with the true meaning of Easter. Then Bobby (Law) gave the Easter message. He explained later that most in attendance were not people they knew - we hope that seeds were planted in their hearts. He also explained the almost complete absence of men - they are the ones expected to carry on the ancestor worship in their families, especially if they are the oldest son. On Monday morning, we arrived at the airport near Taipei only to find our flight was cancelled. However, we all got onto other flights - ours ended up being first class on Japan Airlines! If only for a short trip, we experienced the pampering and service of Japan Airlines. After that, it was economy from Tokyo back to Chicago. We arrived back in Harrisburg just a little late (8 pm Monday EST, 8 am Tuesday Taiwan time) , and only one suitcase was missing, but it was delivered the next day (yesterday) and all is well. Only a little over 28 hours traveling time... not bad. The only deep sleep I had was on the little commuter jet from Chicago to Harrisburg. It's very hard to sleep on a big plane with little room to recline or move. Everyone else was just as tired and very happy to be home. Now it's back to regular life. Last night I had a class and Ken had to work. Today it's grocery shopping and typing up the debriefing notes before I go back to work tomorrow. Thank you to all who prayed and supported us. We were only able to serve through you, and with His strength. Jeanine (for the entire Taiwan Team) |
